Walking the Esplanade under Great Thumb Mesa
If you venture down one of the many routes off Great Thumb Mesa you’ll soon find yourself surrounded by a landscape of light and diversity like no other. Sandstone hoodoos, overhangs, strange creatures, and a palette of color unmatched in other parts of Grand Canyon await those who venture under the gigantic arc of Great Thumb. Canyoneers come here to traverse for a while before digging deeper into to the limestone slots. Backpackers come here to walk for endless days of jaw dropping beauty.
